Australia’s hummgroup (“humm”) operates in an increasingly challenging and competitive consumer finance sector. Humm specializes in higher-value transactions, offering a range of installment options that include both credit cards and buy now, pay later (BNPL) products. With more than 2.7 million customers across five international markets, humm has developed innovative, accessible, and affordable products that empower customers to purchase and pay for the items they want and need.

In 2016, humm Ireland partnered with Symphonix to build its BNPL solution. This partnership evolved over several years, leading to humm’s decision to expand into the UK using the same technology. Shortly after, humm expanded its business to Canada, applying the same “lift and shift” approach with the Symphonix solution.

The Challenge

The challenge for humm centered on driving efficiency while maintaining its focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences, all while continuing to grow globally. Humm required a platform capable of handling diverse customer and regulatory conditions across different geographies, offering a high level of product configuration, and supporting various nuances, including different credit bureaus, fraud prevention providers, data sources, and more.

The Solution

The solution combines Symphonix with Salesforce, integrating both front- and back-end functions to seamlessly manage and enhance the entire customer journey.

Salesforce’s customer management and lead generation capabilities have been combined with Symphonix’s lending solutions, including its Origination and Servicing products. Symphonix’s lending modules automate manual processes and orchestrate workflows to improve efficiency.

This collaboration has resulted in a standardized yet configurable go-to-market solution that can be deployed in any location with minimal time, effort, and cost. Now, humm can quickly enter new markets. Symphonix’s modules are configurable for various asset classes, allowing humm to rapidly introduce and offer new, diverse products to its customers—staying ahead of market demand and competitors alike.

By partnering with Symphonix, humm now has a global solution for customer management, delivering multiple benefits—primarily the ability to quickly configure the system for each market while leveraging proven customer and product experiences to enhance satisfaction and retention. Additionally, the Symphonix solution replaces outdated legacy technology with an agile, cost-effective cloud platform.

Looking ahead, this solution provides humm with the flexibility to pivot, adapt to changes immediately, and scale as needed. Since the Symphonix platform is standardized, it can be deployed rapidly across multiple locations—both quickly and globally.
